So a few people have said a few nice things. Ok…a lot of people are saying a lot of nice things. This is the point where we act like proud parents and bore you with stories of how cute our baby is.

KingsRiverLife.com

No one is quite sure of the origin and no one owns the word, but a “hashtag” is hash mark (#) followed by a word used as a type of bookmark in social media, most notably Twitter. It facilitates cross pollination and collaboration of ideas by creating groupings and words. It creates space in cyberspace where ideas can grow. It is a new word in a world of new words, concepts, and constant change.

6.08.11: Tech Shop Could Fuel Fresno’s Economy

WhatFresnoWants.com

While channel surfing one night, I came across a news segment on a Bay Area company called Tech Shop (http://techshop.ws).  In 2006, the company’s founders were inspired by the sharp downturn in the economy to act on a single powerful idea:  create an open workspace where entrepreneurs could go to dream and build prototypes for new products and inventions. Their hope was that this would form new businesses to jumpstart the crashing economy.  I immediately jumped forward in my seat and said, “We need that!”

5.25.11: Five Questions With: Hashtag’s Travis Sheridan

FresnoFamous.com & TheFresnan.com

In case you haven’t seen, there’s a new edition to Wishon Row called The Hashtag. Sounds internet-y, so we should probably like it. But we need some answers to some nerdy questions before we decide if this kicks ass or not. Lucky for us, co-founder of The Hashtag, Travis Sheridan, was around to give us the info.

1. Hashtag. It sounds nerdy so we’re interested. What the hell is it?

5.25.11: Food, Drink, & Entertainment…what else does one need?

WhatFresnoWants.com

This is not the Fresno I moved to. Or is it? Maybe it just took a few years for me to notice. Or maybe the recent growth is just a reflection that the times are a changin’. Whatever the reason, I’m in full support of non-corporatized eateries, drinkeries, and hang-outeries that support and represent the locals.

5.17.11: Episode #1: Hashtag Fresno

On the Road with Jerry and Rob (video podcast)

A little background is necessary, I think? Jerry and I have talked about doing a podcast off and on for at least a couple of years. We have great conversations every time we get together. So, on a whim, I whipped out my iPhone, started up the Super-8 movie app and started recording our conversation. This is the result, On the Road with Rob and Jerry.

5.1.11: Co-Working in Fresno Is Here…Is Visalia Soon To Follow?

ChristopherHawkins.com

I’ve often pondered the idea of founding a co-working space in Visalia so as to be done with the grind of finding good office spaces for a small, mostly-virtual team. Rather than being deskbound and isolated in less-than-ideal space, why not be in a more open and communal space? Why not work amongst fellow geeks and creatives?

4.27.11: Opening soon: #best.third.space.ever

FresnoFamous.com

Irma Olguin, Jr. remembers what it was like starting out as a creative professional in Fresno, being a freelancer with a resource problem.

“Having a place to go was the biggest thing for me,” says Olguin, who owns Geekwise, a web development and computer engineering firm. The cost of renting an office suite was prohibitive, and while there were alternatives — coffee shops and libraries and friend’s houses — they all had deficiencies. The coffee shops tended to have shoddy wi-fi and minimal access to power outlets. The libraries were configured like … well, libraries.

And just try knocking on a friend’s door at 3 a.m.
